love, Beaumont

October 6, 2026
THE WEEK AHEAD · OCT. 6–12

Hello, Beaumont

When I asked what you wanted to see more of, you answered with a pile of events, things to do, and more about our city. So here it is. Every Tuesday, love, Beaumont puts the next seven days in your inbox: what's happening, where, and when. I do the digging so you don't have to. And every Thursday, you get a story.

Big news to go with it: love, Beaumont has its first partner, and it's Beaumont Events. They're the City team behind five downtown venues: the Jefferson Theatre, Julie Rogers Theatre, Beaumont Civic Center, Downtown Event Centre, and the Tevis Room, plus festivals like Oktoberfest. Through December, City Lights will be in every issue. Everything else is still my pick, chosen for you.

This week gets better as it goes. Thursday through Sunday are packed. Start with My Picks, then find me at the love, Beaumont table at Oktoberfest on Saturday. Say hi, and sign up a friend.

My Picks

Three things I would do this week, in the order they happen.

THURSDAY
Music at the McFaddins’ · McFaddin-Ward House · 6:30–8 PM · Free. Curse and the Cure on the lawn. Bring a chair or blanket and make an evening of it.

FRIDAY
History After Dark: Ghost Hunt · John Jay French Museum · 7 PM + 9:30 PM · $60. One of the more unusual October plans on the calendar, inside one of Beaumont’s historic homes.

SATURDAY
Beaumont Oktoberfest · Rogers Park · 2–8 PM · Free. Polka, food trucks, Kidtoberfest, and the Beer & Wine Garden. This is the big Beaumont plan Saturday.

IN PARTNERSHIP WITH

City Lights

SATURDAY · OCT. 10 · 2 TO 8 P.M. · ROGERS PARK · FREE

Beaumont Oktoberfest

Polka at the park, no passport needed. This is the City's 11th Oktoberfest, and it's free to attend.

Michael Hoffer & the Austin Attitude bring the polka. Paul Childers and the MLC Band with the American Honey Horns share the stage. Food trucks will be on hand, so come hungry.

Grown-ups can find the Beer & Wine Garden (21 and up). The kids get a corner of their own called Kidtoberfest, with rock climbing, hula hoops, face painting, and treats.

OCT. 19 TO 31 · DOORS 6, FILM 7 P.M. · JEFFERSON THEATRE

13 Nights of Halloween

Thirteen nights of Halloween movies at the Jefferson, starting Monday, Oct. 19. Week one runs from spooky to silly: The Sixth Sense, Corpse Bride, Shaun of the Dead, and The Lost Boys.

Circle Friday the 23rd. The Phantom of the Opera is a silent film, paired with an organ concert. Rocky Horror Picture Show is Saturday, and The Addams Family is Sunday.

The final stretch starts with Get Out on the 26th, then Little Shop of Horrors, Scream, Hocus Pocus, and Coco. Halloween closes things out on Saturday the 31st.

Tickets are at the Civic Center box office or on Ticketmaster, and you can also buy at the door if seats are left.

SATURDAY · OCT. 17 · 8 A.M. TO 2 P.M. · MAIN STREET OUTDOOR PLAZA · FREE

Dogtoberfest

Dogtoberfest 2026 in downtown Beaumont

Beaumont Main Street hosts this one, with dog contests, family-friendly activities, and plenty to see while your pup makes new friends. Local businesses and nonprofits will be set up around the plaza, so come ready to wander.

Mark it now and plan the outfit. Yours or theirs.

Eat & Drink

New spots, local favorites, and somewhere to grab a drink.

Photo: love, Beaumont

Taverna Gyro & Pizza · 4405 Calder Ave., Westbrook Shopping Center · Tue–Sat 11 AM–9 PM, Sun 11 AM–8 PM, closed Mon

New on Calder and already worth the trip. Taverna opened in September, serving Greek food and pizza, and we visited. The margarita pizza is the best I've ever had, and it's no close second. The stromboli was the best we've had too, and here's the shocker: no grease. Not a drop. The chef told us it's all in how they prepare it. Start with the hummus, and save room for the homemade baklava. Everything tasted fresh and made from scratch. Go now so you can say you found it first.

Photo: JW's Patio

JW’s Patio · 6420 Phelan Blvd., West Park Marketplace · Mon 11 AM–9 PM, Tue–Thu 11 AM–10 PM, Fri 11 AM–11 PM, Sat 10 AM–11 PM, Sun 10 AM–3 PM

A Beaumont favorite that keeps earning its spot. JW’s Patio is known for good food, good drinks, and a relaxed patio that works just as well for date night as it does for meeting friends. My usual: the Patio Hummus Plate to share, then the Caesar with grilled salmon. Those crispy bits on top are the best part. They do brunch on weekends, too. Planning something bigger? The Pineapple Room can be rented for private events.

Bulletin Board

Free shoutouts for local nonprofits doing good work.

Karolyn Bailey, founder Kacie Bass, and me with Louie at the Millie's Way table. Photo: love, Beaumont

Nobody should have to give up a pet because of a vet bill. That’s the whole idea behind Millie’s Way, a Southeast Texas nonprofit Kacie Bass started in memory of her dog, Millie. When money is the only thing standing between an animal and the care it needs, they step in with help for emergency vet care, grooming, and supplies, for pet owners and rescuers going through a hard time. Their motto says it best: if Millie had her way, no animal would be left behind.

You can meet them, and me, at Dogtoberfest on Saturday, Oct. 17, at the Main Street Outdoor Plaza downtown. Bring your pup, stop by the table, and say hi. Also, follow them on Facebook to keep up with their work.
