Chambers House Museum's New Exhibit Explores a Love of Learning

The Chambers House Museum's newest exhibit is a sweet one. Learning Through Play traces how sisters Ruth and Florence Chambers grew up surrounded by educational toys, building blocks, a puzzle map of the United States, a spelling card game, and how that early curiosity shaped two remarkable lives. Both sisters went to college in the early 1900s, rare for women at the time, and went on to become major forces in Beaumont philanthropy, from the Red Cross to the Beaumont Heritage Society. The exhibit was put together by summer intern Trina Morgan, a longtime teacher herself, who called the whole project a reminder of how much we all learn just by paying attention to the world around us. Worth a stop next time you're near the Chambers House.

Lutcher Theater Unveils a Stacked 2026-2027 Season

Good news for anyone who loves a night at the theater: Lutcher's new season just dropped, and it's a big one. Waitress, Beetlejuice, Mystic Pizza, The Wiz, Shucked, A Beautiful Noise, and a Dolly Parton holiday show are all on the docket, plus Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder and a Chicago tribute with the Symphony of Southeast Texas. It's a quick drive to Orange, and this lineup makes it worth the trip more than once this year. Tickets are on sale now.

🌿 National Farmers Market Week Celebration · Saturday, 8am to 11am · Beaumont Farmers Market, 6525 College St · Free The market throws itself a party with a kids craft day. Face painting, stickers, coloring, plus all the usual Saturday produce.

🦋 Harbor Foundation Butterfly Release · Saturday, 11am to 1pm · 900 Crockett St · Free. Fourteen years running. Food, crafts, and kid activities all morning, then everyone releases butterflies together at 1pm. It's a tribute to people we've lost, and it's genuinely beautiful.

Yolanda Reynolds, Mae's Love Beyond The Walls

Sixty-one people. That's how many folks Yolanda Reynolds has moved into permanent housing since she started Mae's Love Beyond The Walls about a decade ago. Not a shelter bed for the night. An actual place to live.

She furnishes them too, which is where the story gets practical. Every apartment she sets up gets outfitted with donated furniture, and all of that furniture has to live somewhere in the meantime. Right now Yolanda is paying out of pocket for three storage units to hold it, money that could be going straight into helping more people.

KFDM and Fox Southeast Texas named her July's Hometown Hero, and she said the thing she's hoping comes out of the attention is warehouse space. Somebody in Beaumont has a building sitting half empty. That's the whole ask.

One of the people she housed, Joshua Dickerson, now works alongside her as a mover, helping the next person get settled. He put it plainly: she's always been there for him.

Twenty Years of Jim King

Jim King has spent twenty years pointing a camera at Southeast Texas and telling you what's good. His show first aired July 16, 2006, and fifteen years ago he added King's Country Internet Radio on top of it. Musicians, businesses, festivals, hometown people, if it made this corner of Texas worth living in, he put it on air.

Last month the City of Beaumont made it official with a proclamation marking both anniversaries, presented by Mayor Roy West. His longtime friend Jack Pieper, a Southeast Texas radio legend in his own right, was there for it.

In his own words, he says the best is yet to come. Twenty years of spotlighting the good stuff around here, and we're glad somebody's been doing it.
